Work Experience

EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH THE PUBLIC AT OFFICES

AND WORKING WITH CHILDREN AT SCHOOLS

In Venezuela, I worked at two banks and one electric company. Although these jobs are not related to education, the training that I received there definitely helped me in my career as a teacher. I attended training workshops in personnel, office and time management as well as banking. Additionally, I received training in microfilm and how to organize, classify and save documents. I also received training on how to treat clients, the importance of excellence at work, and the adequate use of time, resources and knowledge.

In the United States I have worked teaching Technology, Spanish and English as Second Language to children who ranged from early childhood through high school.  I have worked in different class settings: classes in which children participate with their parents, and also in a preschool. I have worked with students of elementary, middle school and high school level during school hours and in after school programs. Additionally, I have worked in summer camp programs.  In every school I have had to prepare lesson plans and in some cases I have had to prepare the curriculum from scratch. I always include different subjects while preparing lessons following the common core standards. I have also participated in workshops related to music, art, movement and recreation.

One of my most rewarding and learning experiences was working in Charter Schools. These schools pledges a serious commitment to students and their families. While working there, I received training every August and throughout the school year. I also participated in Professional Development Sessions every Friday. These learning sessions included: strategies to decimate the achievement gap, classroom instruction that works, how to reach and motivate all students, improving math and English, special education training, teaching diverse communities, how to become excellent students and more.

In my technology classes students learn about different computer programs such as: Scratch, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Illustrator, Alice, In Design, Photoshop, web design and working knowledge of the Internet. They make research and investigations about topics related to technology. I choose resources and strategies that allow my students to become technologically literate and acquire the 21st century skills. Some of the topics that I teach are: resources of technology, Forensic Science, green technology, biotechnology, structural engineering, flight technology, graphic communications and more.

As a teacher I have had the rewarding opportunity to work with students with disabilities: hearing and speech impairment; emotional and learning challenges, ADHD, ADD, autism, diabetes and some others. I always made special accommodations depending on their needs. My lessons include opportunities for my students read, listen, talk, work in teams and present their final work.

I see learning opportunities in many situations that we experience in our classroom. I use those opportunities to enhance my lessons, and keep my students motivated. I like teaching technology while incorporating other subjects: English, math, science, art, music and social studies. For me it is very important to motivate my students to pursue excellence and to enjoy the class. Learning is a journey and I always share ideas and strategies with my class so that they can become "super star" students.
